Download Gut Grease Linux Server
Directions:
A .sh file is included in the download file you can modify.
Step 1 is to make sure it works locally on your LAN.
First, figure out your linux local IP address. From a command prompt, type ifconfig. Look for an address of the form 192.168.1.123 or similar. Edit the .sh file and put that IP address in for --address. You can leave the port field alone if you wish. Next run the .sh file (do a chmod +x to make it executable) and verify you see creating server in the console window.

Regardless if using Windows or Linux for the server, the next step is to run the Gut Grease game from Steam. Tap esc after it has completed loading and enter the same address and port used for the server. Make sure use security is ticked off and tap apply. Gut Grease will restart and connect to the local server.
If it works and you do not get an unable to connect to server when starting Gut Grease, other computers on your lan should be able to connect to the same server. Running the game and the server on the same computer should not present a problem for most computers.
Now that you have it working locally, if you want to play with someone not on your local lan you will need to open up a port in your firewall and point that port to the IP address and port configured for the server. Most routers contain a gaming section under security you can open a port for tcp and route that port to the local lan computer. You can google findmyip to see what the world sees as your IP address. When they launch Gut Grease from Steam, they will enter that IP address to connect to your local lan computer over the internet. For most home network setups, there are 2 firewalls you will need to open the port on. One is your router, and the second is your built in computer firewall. You can use Windows Defender if enabled on Windows to open a port, and for linux use ufw to open a port. Once completed other friends can play Gut Grease with you over the internet. Once you are done, go ahead and close those firewall ports so you aren't leaving ports open for the evil hackers in the world to try and find a hole and break into your computer (at least close the router one).
